Ne baze te disa dokumentave publike, msojme se apostati Bergoglio, asht i rregjistruem si antar nderit ne organizaten masonike « Rotary Club », per degen e Buenos Aires-it, Argjentine. 

Me 26 Korrik 1999, Bergoglio i shkroi nji leter falenderimit presidentit te klubit ne fjale, tuej e falenderue per titullin e marrun te antarit te nderit dhe pergzon presidentin per punen e shkelqyeshme te klubit (sic) ne sherbim te komunitetit. 

Ktu ma poshte vijon perkthimi anglisht i ksaj letre, kurse origjinali ne spanjisht mundet me u konsultue ne foton ne vazhdim.

Ne 2005, Klubi Rotary i akordoi Bergoglios titullin : “Silver Laurel to the Personality of the Year”, qe klubi masonik ia nep personaliteteve ma te njohuna te komunitetit. 

Denimin e pare te Rotarianizmit prej Kishes shejte Katolike Romake e gjejme ne Spanje, ku ipeshkvijte e Palencia-s, Orense-s, Tuy-it, Leon-it, dhe Almeria-s denoncuen klubin ne fjale si « nji organizate e re satanike, e perafert me Masonerine, e neveritshme dhe perverse ». 

Me 4 Shkurt 1928, Zyra e Shejte (Holy Office) ndaloi meshtaret me marre pjese ne mbledhjet e klubit rotarjan, si antare ose si te ftuem. Ky ndalim u perserit ne 1950, me nji Dekret te Kongregacjonit te Zyres se Shejte, qe ndalon si meshtaret ashtu edhe laiket me marre pjese ne kyt klub masonik. Dekreti i Zyres se Shejte mundet me u konsultue ne Aktet e Selise Apostolike, vjeti 1951, vol. 43, faqe 92.
